An explosion occurred at a metal fabrication plant on Thursday night in Pennsylvania, as reported by officials. At least four individuals were taken to the hospital with injuries related to the incident at the Langeloth Metallurgical Company located on Langeloth Road in Smith Township, Washington County, according to WTAE. Following the explosion, a hazardous materials team was dispatched to the facility.
The incident was reported around 6:15 p.m., as stated by the outlet. "Apparently, they were transferring some kind of chemical from a tanker to a stationary tank, and something went wrong and something exploded," said Smith Township Fire Chief Brandon Kriznik, according to WTAE. In response to concerns about a possible release of hydrogen peroxide into the atmosphere, Washington County officials issued a shelter-in-place order for the Langeloth neighborhood, although this notice has now been rescinded.
The county has informed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, which local emergency management officials indicated is a standard protocol during a chemical incident. "Everyt Everything's good. There was nothing released that can harm anybody, and everybody can rest tonight knowing that everything's good here," Kriznik stated.
